NGO Gret, the Radio Coalition and Tranoben'ny Tantsaha have sealed an official partnership with the French Embassy and AFD for the implementation of the HIFI project – Haino Ifanabeazana ho an'ny Fifindra-monina, on Tuesday in Ambatomaro. Scheduled from August 2026 to July 2028, this program is part of the multi-country Médiamig initiative and aims to improve the quality and relevance of information related to environmental and climate-driven migration. The regions of Androy, Boeny and Menabe, which are both departure and reception zones, will be at the heart of the interventions. Madagascar has experienced recurring population movements for several years, particularly in the Grand South, hit by droughts and deteriorating livelihoods. Between 2019 and 2022, nearly 13% of residents in 20 communes were forced to migrate. These movements weaken households and increase pressure on local resources. The HIFI project aims to go beyond emergency narratives to explain the root causes of these migrations: climate, environment, economy and society. It will strengthen the capacity of journalists and community radio stations, promote co-construction of messages with migrant populations and encourage dialogue with public institutions.
