A series of inaugurations took place in Manakara during the visit of the president of the Refoundation of the Republic, Col Michaël Randrianirina. Two new infrastructures were inaugurated in Manakara, capital of the Fitovinany region, on the occasion of the president of the Refoundation's visit, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina. These include 5 km of rehabilitated urban roads and the new prefecture building. Road repairs were financed through cooperation between the Malagasy government and the World Bank, implemented by the Integrated Growth Poles Project (PIC). These works were eagerly awaited by the population. According to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr Herinjatovo Aimé Ramiarison, the failure of economic infrastructure has caused losses equivalent to 2% of GDP (gross domestic product), or approximately 320 million USD annually, for years. Indeed, several roads in Manakara that were rehabilitated had not benefited from repairs in many years, despite numerous local requests. Their restoration should improve traffic flow in the city and reduce daily difficulties faced by users. The new prefecture building was entirely financed from the State's own resources, through the Ministry of Land Planning and Decentralization. Local officials noted, however, that equipment necessary for the proper functioning of this new infrastructure remains insufficient. An appeal was thus made to authorities to provide the material resources essential for the operation of prefectural services.
