The regional budget conference, organized for the preparation of the 2027 finance law for Atsimo Andrefana, was held yesterday in the main hall of the Region at Mitsinjo Betanimena. Decentralized services, representatives of local authorities, economic operators, civil society organizations, and technical and financial partners participated in the meeting.

The regional directorate of Economy and Finance adopted an unusual method by directly inviting participants to express their priority needs by a show of hands. Scheduled to last three hours, from 9 a.m. to noon, the meeting ultimately extended by nearly two hours.

The rehabilitation of irrigation canals, particularly along the northern axis of Toliara, was among the main requests. The regional director of Agriculture indicated that the Bevoay intake had recently been desanded. He nevertheless emphasized the need for better management of water use, as the canals had also been cleared.

A revision of customs duties, particularly at the port of Toliara, was also demanded. The rehabilitation of the natural pool of Bezaha, already requested several times at previous budget conferences for tourism development, was raised again.

The regional directorate of Communication and Culture requested internet connections for its delegations in the districts. The Population directorate sought funding for the deployment of care centers in Beroroha and Benenitra. The regional civil society organization also requested the provision of an office.
