Alternative rock is seeking to reclaim its place on Madagascar's music scene. This Sunday, Skate Park will host the first edition of "Reviv'Alt", an event organized by Rar Project, a collective of artists passionate about this musical movement. Concerts, skateboarding, tattoos, custom motorcycles and meetings between enthusiasts will mark the day. The lineup features High o Mellow, Ikala, Grey and Rar Project, with participation from Mauritian band Silver Bullet X. This international presence gives the event a broader dimension, designed as a space for exchange between Madagascar's and Mauritius's music scenes. "We want to share the stage and create an artistic exchange between the two islands," explains Hoffman, guitarist, singer and founder of Rar Project. Beyond concerts, "Reviv'Alt" aims to foster meetings between artists sharing the same musical culture. In Madagascar, alternative rock developed notably in the 1990s and early 2000s, with bands like AL Doudh, Menalootsa, Good For Nothing, Sweety Punk, Vain, I'NN, Ikala, Océana and UXT. Several movements emerged, particularly around the Kotaba movement, helping to renew Madagascar's rock landscape. Over the years, the alternative scene gradually declined. With "Reviv'Alt", Rar Project hopes to revive public interest in this musical genre and remind listeners that alternative rock continues to exist in Madagascar. The event also aims to highlight a new generation of artists, including High o Mellow and Grey, who are beginning to establish themselves on Madagascar's music scene.
