The National Bureau for Disaster Risk Management (BNGRC) and the Malagasy Red Cross are uniting their efforts to face disasters. They signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen collective action on disaster risk management in Madagascar. The signing took place yesterday at the Panorama Hotel. This cooperation marks an anticipatory approach to recovery. "The cooperation will focus on disaster prevention and preparedness, emergency response and post-disaster recovery. The objective is to save lives, reduce the impact of disasters and strengthen community resilience," the BNGRC stated. "Before crises, it will promote prevention, early warning and community preparedness. After a shock, it will enable faster and better coordinated response," according to the Malagasy Red Cross. This collaboration has already produced results. In the six months following Cyclone Gezani, 6,241 households, approximately 30,000 people, received assistance. The Malagasy Red Cross has volunteers ready to intervene throughout Madagascar at every fokontany level. This partnership comes at a critical time, with intensifying risks from cyclones, drought and flooding.
