A training workshop on electricity pricing from mini-grids opened on August 24 at Carlton Anosy. Finding the right balance between electricity accessibility for households and investment viability is one of the key challenges in pricing mini-grids, which are set to play an increasingly important role in electrifying areas still far from major networks. Organized in collaboration with COMESA, the five-day meeting brings together representatives from public institutions, renewable energy actors and the private sector, as well as academics and researchers. The objective is to strengthen their skills on tariff-setting mechanisms while deepening the technical and financial dimensions that condition their implementation. The work should notably contribute to developing a pricing model adapted to Madagascar's realities. According to Dr Jinot Razafimamonjy, cabinet director of the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons, this training should enable a clearer and better-adapted approach to the national context. The challenge is also to support the development of mini-grids powered by renewable energy. These installations are a particularly important solution in areas where access to electricity still requires considerable effort.
