Nearly three months after a violent attack in Ambohimiadana, Bongatsara commune, Antananarivo Atsimondrano district, the Criminal Brigade of the national police in Anosy successfully traced the alleged perpetrators. Following the investigation, nine suspects have been arrested, some directly implicated in the assault. The incident occurred on the night of May 30, 2026, around 11:30 p.m. Six armed individuals wielding machetes and firearms broke into a residence. Two remained outside as lookouts while four entered the house. The criminals stole a flat-screen television, two laptops, jewelry, gold, 1.2 million ariary, and several mobile phones. The father of the family attempted to resist the attack and was violently struck with a machete, suffering serious leg injuries.

Investigators on the case

Following the incident, the Anosy Criminal Brigade conducted extensive intelligence and investigative work to identify the perpetrators and possible accomplices. The first breakthrough came on August 20 in Namontana when police arrested one suspect found in possession of one of the phones stolen during the attack, significantly advancing the investigation. The next day, four more suspects were arrested in Ambohibarikely Anosibe, in the fourth district of Antananarivo. They are suspected of acting as intermediaries to receive and resell items from the robbery. Interrogations allowed investigators to continue tracing the network. Information gathered led to four additional individuals identified as alleged accomplices. Police verification enabled the victim to formally identify two suspects as direct participants in the attack. According to the national police, one suspect is also a repeat offender. In total, nine people are now involved in this case, with varying degrees of participation to be determined by the courts. They were to be referred to the prosecutor on Monday, August 24, 2026.
