Creative Industries: IMIC's First Masterclass a Success
The Institute of Fashion and Creative Industry (IMIC), founded by designer Alexandra Denage, has reached a decisive milestone in professionalizing Madagascar's creative landscape. The establishment has just organized its first masterclass, titled "The Standards of Luxury," at ARRA Studio Créatif in Ankorondrano. This immersive workshop gave a select group of tailors, stylists, and creative enthusiasts direct technical training focused on finishing, precision, and the demands of haute couture. To lead this inaugural edition, IMIC called upon Leïla Meski, currently a retoucher at Chanel, with fifteen years of experience at the world's most prestigious fashion houses, including Prada, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, and Givenchy. By leveraging this specialized expertise and Alexandra Denage's professional network, the initiative aims to build lasting bridges between Malagasy craftsmanship and global market standards. This first session provided a clear assessment of the sector's state. As Alexandra Denage emphasizes, "the meeting confirmed strong enthusiasm and undeniable creative potential, while highlighting structural gaps: lack of knowledge about different production chain links, increased need for training in key technical skills such as pattern-making or styling, and insufficient standardization in raw material sourcing." With new short workshops already in preparation, the organization ultimately aims to develop long-term curricula recognized by ministerial authorities, establishing fashion as a genuine driver of employment and cultural influence for Madagascar.
