A mission comprising representatives from the African Union, United Nations, and SADC is expected in Madagascar this week to prepare a political dialogue framework ahead of elections. If the situation remains unchanged, international mediators will arrive in Madagascar this week to attempt resolving political disputes in the country. Alongside delegations from the African Union and United Nations, envoys from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will join them to develop a political framework before elections.

"Their objective is to prepare political dialogue to resolve differences of opinion and examine various proposals to achieve this," said a source close to the matter yesterday. In mid-July, the international community announced consultations to prepare this dialogue and the political process in the country.

The African Union's Special Representative for Political Affairs, Mohamed Idriss Farah, and the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Africa, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, led the delegation, which gathered the aspirations of political forces and actors met during a week of consultations.

"The objective is to reach a political agreement aimed at modifying or reforming mechanisms to organize elections acceptable to all in a safe environment," states the UN press release published following their Madagascar visit. During this second visit to Madagascar, SADC envoys will also support the delegation.

The SADC summit held last week in South Africa concluded with a declaration from member states expressing their willingness to support various initiatives to reach a common political agreement to settle the country's affairs. Head of State Colonel Michaël Randrianirina stated that the political dialogue's objective was "to help the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) organize peaceful and transparent elections."
