Farmers affected by Cyclone Gezani are beginning to resume their activities. Four hundred households are receiving financial support to help them cope with the disaster's aftermath.

Four hundred vulnerable agricultural households in Ambatondrazaka are benefiting from approximately 490 million ariary (100,000 euros) in aid to address the consequences of Cyclone Gezani. Funding began in May 2026 and is intended to help affected families meet immediate needs and gradually resume agricultural activities. Households that suffered significant crop losses are among the beneficiaries.

The official check handover took place in the presence of German Ambassador Oliver Knoerich. "This sum symbolizes the strengthening of cooperation between Germany and Madagascar," he stated. This support is part of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

"In total, 400 households are benefiting from this aid. This is the result of efforts we are making to support affected families," said Aly Arlin Rivoarimalala, national president of the Malagasy Red Cross.

Ambatondrazaka district was targeted due to its importance in national rice production and the agricultural losses recorded following flooding. "As the rice granary and a region with strong agricultural production, Ambatondrazaka district benefited from this targeted strategic support," explained Fara Rakotondrazanany, head of the Malagasy Red Cross.

Aid prioritizes households with limited income, those whose food reserves are depleted, and families that suffered significant losses. Training is also planned to strengthen their capacities and facilitate the resumption of activities. Beneficiary monitoring will subsequently allow evaluation of the intervention's effects.
