An awareness campaign began on the ground on August 22, 2026. 10,000 households spread across ten fokontany in Greater Tana will benefit from home water connections for just 30,000 Ariary. Led by the PAAEP project and Jirama with World Bank support, this social program reaches a decisive milestone with the launch of selection surveys in the field. As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Jirama, under the supervision of the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (MEAH) and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), is launching the first phase of a reduced-cost home drinking water connection program. Financed by the World Bank through the PAAEP project, this nine-month initiative aims to supply 10,000 vulnerable households spread across ten fokontany in the capital and its surroundings, namely Ankadindratombo, Manarintsoa Atsinanana, Antetezanafovoany I, Faliarivo Ambanidia, Angarangarana, Anosibe Andrefana I, Ankerana Ankadindramamy and Anosivavaka Ambohimanarina. An awareness campaign already began on the ground on August 22, 2026, notably in Tanjombato and Ankorondrano. Surveyors are currently canvassing neighborhoods to identify eligible households before official announcement of selected beneficiaries. This step marks decisive progress toward realizing the right to drinking water for all in the capital.

Criteria

To benefit from this program at a fixed social cost of 30,000 Ariary, households must meet strict eligibility criteria. Only residential properties not yet connected to the Jirama network are eligible, excluding any commercial or industrial use. The house must be located within a maximum distance of 30 meters from the existing network, without physical obstacles or property disputes (building, piping, land). Additionally, the local distribution network must have sufficient water pressure and flow. Interested households must provide a copy of their identity card, a residence certificate less than three months old, a property title or owner authorization, municipal alignment agreement, and proof of filing fee payment.
