A violent armed robbery occurred in the Bemonto Ambarijeby kely fokontany, in the Kandreho district, in the Betsiboka region, on Wednesday, August 20, 2026, around 5 a.m. Ten bandits carried out the attack, making off with 40 cattle and abducting two forest rangers from the protected Kasijy forest area. Following the incident, an investigation was launched, but no bodies of the bandits or community members were found at the scene. Clashes erupted when police confronted the criminals. The result: the two abducted rangers and some of the stolen cattle were recovered by the bandits, and one community member was wounded by their gunfire. Regarding the incident, the Kandreho district authorities did not shy away from responsibility, but assisted in treating the wounded and ensuring the safe return of the two survivors to their families after their abduction. However, authorities continue to pursue the bandits who still have approximately 12 head of cattle in their possession.
