The 2026 baccalaureate results were posted and made accessible by phone starting yesterday, August 20, 2026. The number of candidates who obtained their baccalaureate diploma has dropped significantly. The "Bac Malio" approach introduced by the University of Toliara is one of the reasons.
Disappointment for some, celebration for others. Of the 29,144 candidates who sat for the baccalaureate exams throughout the former Toliara province, 11,427 succeeded, representing a pass rate of 39.21%. When official results were released yesterday morning at various examination centers in the city of sun, both smiling and unhappy faces were seen. "Many of us couldn't pass. The pass rate is too low, even lower than last year," said Aldine, a final-year A2 student at a private school in Toliara.
In 2025, the pass rate was 43.14%, already down from 2024's 63.01%. This year, the A2 series recorded the lowest pass rate at just 37.15%, while the C series reached 69.09% and the OSE series recorded 66.25%. Following were the A1 series (59.95%), L series (55.05%), D series (39.24%), and S series (38.07%). Technical education recorded a very satisfactory pass rate of 71.10%.
Measures
The youngest candidate this year, aged 10, obtained her A2 series baccalaureate diploma with an overall average of 11/20. The oldest candidate, aged 60 and officially registered, did not sit for the exams on July 20.
Since last year, the University of Toliara has promoted the "Bac Malio" approach. A term in local dialect meaning "clean" and "transparent." "The baccalaureate examination throughout the former Toliara province will be surrounded by measures to combat all forms of fraud. We apply zero tolerance to any attempt at fraud and corruption," warned Francis Veriza, president of the University of Toliara. Since last year, these measures include searching candidates' bags at the start of each exam, allowing only pens, identification cards, and admission tickets into the examination room.
In rural areas, parents have gone so far as to threaten examination center heads so their children could sit for exams and obtain their baccalaureate diplomas. Years ago, fictitious candidates inflated official numbers, disrupting the entire examination process.
Among teachers, last year was marked by the sale of exam subjects for up to one million five hundred thousand ariary to candidates. This year, therefore, measures have been significantly strengthened. Seventy-five candidates will face disciplinary proceedings. The passing score was set at 9.75/20. However, a small issue emerged: the list of admitted candidates with their scores leaked 12 hours before the official results were released yesterday, August 20.
