A free training program to become a photovoltaic solar energy technician has been launched in Madagascar. The renewable energy sector is experiencing new momentum on the island. Facing electricity access challenges and the need to professionalize youth, the PHARE project has announced official registration opening for a new training session in photovoltaic solar energy systems technician (TSSPV). Specifically targeting young men and women aged 18 to 30, this intensive technical program spans eight months. The training is entirely free, offering a concrete opportunity for socio-professional integration in a rapidly expanding sector across Madagascar. The program will be delivered at two leading public institutions: the technical vocational high school (LTP) of Alarobia in Antananarivo and the technical vocational high school (LTP) of Toliara. This strategic geographic distribution aims to reach both youth in the capital and those in southern regions, particularly affected by energy transition challenges. Regarding entrance exam procedures, candidates must pay a participation fee of 20,000 ariary. The deadline for submitting applications and collecting admission notices is set for September 19, 2026. Written exams will take place on September 22-23, 2026 at the respective LTPs, followed by selection interviews with partner companies on September 30, 2026, before official classes begin in October 2026. Carried out under the international Global Gateway and Team Europe initiative, this project benefits from financial support from the German government through the BMZ, as well as co-financing from the European Union. Operational implementation brings together key actors including the European Institute for Cooperation and Development (IECD) as project leader, alongside FONDEM, ANKA Madagascar, GIZ, Enabel, Expertise France, and the Finnish National Agency for Education.
