A brawl erupted late Saturday night in the Andranomasina fokontany, Ambohimanambola commune, Mandoto district, involving hand-to-hand combat and the use of sharp weapons. One person died from their injuries, three were wounded, and two were arrested by police. The violence broke out between two families following a famadihana, or turning of the bones ceremony. According to local reports, the families are related through both male and female lines, though tensions run deep. The famadihana lasted several days, with one family completing their ancestor reburial on Sunday. The other family's ceremony had just concluded on Monday night when the fighting erupted. The dispute escalated into hand-to-hand combat, and knives were drawn. Blood was spilled. According to available information, one person was stabbed in the chest. Despite rescue efforts by community members, the victim succumbed to their injuries. Two others sustained serious wounds and were taken to a health facility. After the violence, some fled and were later apprehended. Police identified the suspects as a parent and child. The child also sustained serious injuries and received treatment from local medical staff. The case is now in police custody and investigations are ongoing. The suspects are being held as persons of interest in connection with the stabbing.
