Two members of the same family died in a traffic accident that occurred Tuesday evening on RN2 at Ampasipotsy Gara in Moramanga district. Three other people were injured in the collision involving a taxi-be and a semi-trailer truck. According to information from local authorities, the victims were part of a family from Antananarivo traveling to Foulpointe for vacation. Their vehicle, a rented taxi-be chartered for a special trip, had been immobilized on the roadside after breaking down. The vehicle's hood was open so occupants could check the source of the problem. It was at that moment that a semi-trailer truck from Antananarivo allegedly violently struck the rear of the taxi-be. Under the force of the impact, the taxi-be was propelled forward, violently hitting several people standing in front of the vehicle, according to police. Two members of the same family succumbed to their injuries. Three other people were injured and evacuated to Moramanga hospital for necessary treatment. After the accident, the truck driver allegedly fled, leaving his vehicle and assistant driver at the scene. The latter reportedly told investigators he had fallen asleep and only regained consciousness after the collision. Initial findings also indicate a possible lighting problem with the semi-trailer. Its lights were reportedly insufficiently visible at the time of the incident. Following the accident, reports circulated claiming the driver had surrendered to the Brickaville gendarmerie brigade, information denied by authorities. According to them, the driver did not present himself to the gendarmerie and remains actively sought. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and establish any responsibilities.
