Residents near the market in Antanimbary commune, Maevatanàna district, Betsiboka region, were alarmed when they heard a woman calling for help during an attack by three criminals on Sunday, June 21, 2026, around 7 p.m. According to reports, the incident occurred when three men attempted to rob a woman who had just sold vegetables and was carrying cash. When the woman resisted, one of the attackers drew a knife and stabbed her near the heart and shoulder. The assailants fled with a wallet containing approximately 300,000 Ariary. Emergency services were called and managed to recover the stolen items and money during community intervention. The three suspects remain at large. The injured woman was taken to Morafenokely hospital in Maevatanàna town for treatment. A mobile phone with photos was found at the scene, with one of the robbers appearing in the images. Local authorities are investigating the incident.
