Civil Society: Regional Consultations in Fitovinany and SAVA
Civil society members from the Fitovinany region during consultations. Civil society is now entering the debate on the country's "refoundation." In Fitovinany, a national consultation dedicated to civil society organizations officially opened last Tuesday, while the SAVA region launched its own regional consultation the same day in Sambava. In both cases, the stated objective is the same, according to information released. The goal is to "bring forward proposals from grassroots actors in discussions about Madagascar's future." For three days, representatives from different sectors and civil society structures are meeting in Fitovinany. They are called upon to express their concerns, share their experiences, and especially participate in exchanges dedicated to the country's prospects. The initiative aims to give civil society a more prominent role in the ongoing political process. Organizers emphasize its role as a "major force and partner in construction and development, at both regional and national levels." They want to make their voices heard and argue that "refoundation cannot be limited to institutions and political leaders." SAVA also joins the movement Several hundred kilometers away, the SAVA region has also launched its own dynamic. The regional civil society consultation (FMP) officially opened on August 18 in Sambaba. It also takes place over three days. This succession of meetings aims to mobilize non-state actors around the "refoundation" process. After consultations dedicated to other components of society, civil society is now called upon to put its proposals on the table. The question now remains what concrete place these contributions will occupy in the continuation of the process. Because beyond speeches and meetings, the challenge will be to transform recommendations from the regions into proposals capable of influencing national decisions. From Fitovinany to SAVA, civil society wants to have a say in the debate. Regional consultations have been launched. The next battle will be ensuring their conclusions are effectively taken into account.
