Impersonation of a public official, illegal uniform wearing, and property damage. A man posing as a gendarme was arrested by law enforcement after being involved in an altercation with a motorist in Tsiadana. The investigation revealed he was actually a security officer in a civil service. The incident occurred on June 20 at around 5 p.m. in Tsiadana, in the capital. Alerted by a phone call, the Tanà-Ville Gendarmerie Brigade was informed of an individual wearing a two-stripe rank (G2C) and driving a blue TVS motorcycle engaged in a dispute with a motorist. According to information gathered, the man claimed to be a gendarme during the altercation. Before leaving the scene, he allegedly kicked the vehicle, causing material damage, then seized the car keys. An immediate search operation was launched by gendarmes. The suspect was eventually located and arrested in the Ambatomaro district. During his arrest, investigators discovered he possessed several military and paramilitary items: a gendarme uniform, a balaclava, combat boots, a holster for a handgun, and a tactical vest. All this equipment was seized, along with the motorcycle used by the suspect. Verification by authorities quickly established that the individual did not belong to the National Gendarmerie. He actually worked as a manager in a civil security service. The vehicle owner filed a complaint for the violence and damage suffered. Following preliminary investigation and custody, the case was referred to justice. The suspect was placed in preventive detention pending trial. Through this case, authorities remind that the profession of gendarme is strictly regulated and requires passing an examination and completing mandatory training. They also emphasize that wearing a uniform, combat boots, or military accessories does not confer gendarme status.
