Two men were arrested in Ambanitsena, in the Manjakandriana district, after attempting to rape a 21-year-old woman. The incident occurred on Monday around 6:40 p.m., when a distress call alerted the gendarmes. The victim, who had just gotten off a bus and was heading home alone to Ambohibehasina, was followed and then attacked by two intoxicated men. They threw her to the ground and gagged her mouth to prevent her from screaming. A passing motorcyclist spotted the scene thanks to his vehicle's headlight and immediately raised the alarm. Neighbors mobilized and managed to catch one of the suspects in a rice field. The other was arrested shortly after at his home, surprised to learn that his alleged accomplice had already been captured. During questioning, both men admitted they wanted to assault the young woman and clarified they had not attempted to rob her. The investigation was handed over to the Carion gendarmerie.
