Education: Back-to-School Shopping Rush Begins
With less than twenty days until the official start of school on September 7, according to the National Education calendar, students continue to enjoy their vacation while parents are already in full preparation mode. School supply sections in major stores have seen increased foot traffic in recent weeks, with a genuine rush over the past few days. The final week before school starts is, as every year, the busiest week, with some parents forced to wait for their end-of-month salary before they can make their back-to-school purchases. Regarding prices, increases of approximately 2% to 10% are noted depending on items and shopping locations. However, small supplies, such as pens from certain brands, show no price increases. Registration and re-registration procedures at educational institutions are also underway. In private schools, re-registrations are generally completed before the start of vacation to estimate the number of places available for new students for the next school year. Budget between 200,000 ariary and over one million ariary per child, depending on the institution, for all back-to-school expenses.
