Solar energy is gaining ground in Madagascar. Solar power is attracting investors to the energy sector. The call for proposals launched by the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons (MEH) as part of the 'Solar Solution for Madagascar' project has yielded 80 bids. Of these, 64 were deemed admissible, while 16 were submitted after the deadline expired. The ministry indicated that the next phase will consist of a detailed examination of each application by the evaluation committee. According to information released on June 18, nine localities received no bids. These are Port-Bergé, Foulpointe, Marovoay, Andilamena, Tanambe, Ihosy, Maevatanana, Mananara Avaratra, and Ambatondrazaka. The program covers 55 sites distributed across the entire national territory as part of strengthening public-private partnerships. The objective is to achieve up to 526 MWc of solar capacity to support Jirama's production and expand access to clean and sustainable energy.
