Bevilany – Maevatanàna: Three Cattle Thieves Killed by Police
Security forces working tirelessly in the Bevilany region, under the command of the local police chief, continue their fight against banditry to ensure public safety. On Saturday, August 17, 2026, around dawn, security personnel received a report about eight male cattle thieves who had gathered stolen cattle in a 20-hectare enclosure. Police responded swiftly upon receiving the information. Officers confronted the suspects at the Bekipoly entrance alongside soldiers and gendarmes, leading to an armed exchange. Two of the thieves were killed in the confrontation with security forces, while a third was captured alive but severely wounded by gunfire. All stolen cattle were recovered and returned to their owners. The captured suspect was transported to the health center but succumbed to blood loss. Twenty head of cattle were returned to their rightful owners during the operation. No security personnel or soldiers from Bevilany fokontany, Tsararano commune in Maevatanàna district were injured or killed. Security forces continue their relentless campaign against banditry with ongoing operations. According to reports, the new national gendarmerie command in Betsiboka region plans to intensify anti-banditry strategies.
