Emergency measures have been taken by the Ministry of Livestock following the discovery of cattle mortality cases in Ambovombe district. A technical team led by the minister, Riana Nantenaina Randrianomenjanahary, immediately traveled to the site to assess the situation. After examining the organs of deceased animals, the team ruled out any signs of suspected or contagious disease. Following this, a joint "Taskforce" was established to strengthen livestock health monitoring. It comprises technicians from the Ministry of Livestock, local authorities representing the region and district, as well as agents from local technical services such as the Veterinary Services directorate and other relevant entities. The "Taskforce" is tasked with strengthening awareness, surveillance and implementing rapid measures to prevent such events from recurring. To launch its work, the Ministry of Livestock allocated 3 million ariary to begin identifying affected farmers and counting dead or sick animals. Veterinary medicines and nutritional supplements for vulnerable livestock will also be distributed, it was stated.
Meanwhile, an awareness campaign was conducted among local farmers to protect their livestock in appropriate shelters while ensuring sufficient feed and close health monitoring during this rainy period. This initiative, led jointly by all stakeholders, aims to protect herds and support farmers while preserving the local economy.
