During a STEM and digital workshop in Anosy. In 2020, girls represented only 17% of students in Mathematics and Computer Science at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Antananarivo, compared to 63% at the Faculty of Letters. This disparity illustrates their weak presence in scientific fields. Obstacles can emerge as early as school orientation, influenced by stereotypes and sexist practices within families and schools. In rural and disadvantaged areas, difficulties in accessing and continuing studies can also affect their educational paths.
These issues were at the heart of a workshop organized on August 18 at the Ministry of National Education in Anosy. Conducted between February and April 2025, a pre-facto study identified factors influencing girls' access, persistence, and success in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as well as digital fields. Results should now contribute to adapting teaching practices.
Among the tools presented is Zah'Ai, a solution accessible on phone, tablet, or computer, with or without internet connection. It provides resources dedicated to artificial intelligence and autonomous learning. The program targets second and first-year high school students and their teachers in pilot schools in Analamanga, Amoron'i Mania, and Diana.
