Around a hundred young people mobilized in Mahajanga for the Kopakelatra operation. Following the thousands gathered for the Star Tour, it was time to clean up. In Mahajanga, a hundred young people participated early this week in a Kopakelatra operation organized at the event site and in several public spaces. Moov Up Boeny, Club Wash, volunteer youth from DREN and Star staff members also took part in the initiative. The initiative aims notably to preserve the city's most frequented locations. "It's also our way of thanking the population," emphasizes Soamihanta Andriamanantena, Star's CSR manager. Dolsain Guy Arvely, PDS of Mahajanga, also supported the operation, stressing the importance of preserving one of the most popular beaches for vacationers. Deployed in six cities, Kopakelatra collected 270 tons of plastic waste this year. These materials are then destined for recycling. Star transforms them notably into down jackets, while partner associations use bottles to manufacture interlocking pavers. Beyond cleanup, Star now wishes to strengthen awareness. With Mahajanga's PDS, its CSR manager is considering a campaign to mobilize the population, associations and businesses around waste collection and recycling. Another operation is also planned for September as part of World Cleanup Day.
