Thierry Rakotonarivo: 'No Technical Issues for July 2027 Election'
The political horizon is clearing for the island nation. There are no technical problems for holding elections in July 2027, according to reassuring statements from Thierry Rakotonarivo, president of the Independent National Electoral Commission, yesterday. The electoral machinery is indeed in motion, and preparations are advancing rapidly. On the logistics side, the revision of the electoral roll will be definitively completed in April 2027. The electoral list will therefore be ready and consolidated at that time to welcome voters to the polls. But beyond purely technical aspects, the INEC interprets political signals with optimism. The recent statement by the president of the Refondation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, during his official meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, reflects a clear willingness to move forward with elections, continued the INEC president. For informed observers, this is a striking demonstration to the eyes of the entire world that Colonel Michaël Randrianirina has no intention of extending the power he currently holds. Indeed, as can unfortunately be seen in many African countries, some leaders from military regimes are tempted to indefinitely extend their mandate once in power. Madagascar thus intends to be an exception by turning the page on the transition within the set timeframe. Finally, for this election to be a total and inclusive success, INEC President Thierry Rakotonarivo calls on all concerned political forces to actively participate and each bring their suggestions to improve the electoral process.
