Malagasy cinema gets a new showcase. From August 20-23, Havoria Anosy will host the second edition of the Madagascar Film Festival – ISSM Awards, organized by the Ivon-toeran'ny sarimihetsika sy ny sarimiaina malagasy (ISSM). A total of thirty-six films will compete in five categories: animation, short documentary, feature documentary, short fiction and feature fiction. The selection favors recently produced and directed works, reflecting the sector's dynamism. It includes notably "Fara", "Fesse Book" and "Omby" in animation, four short documentaries including "Riziculture d'Ankasina" and "Fora", as well as four feature documentaries among which "Joroterapia", "Sampy" and "Madame Zo". Short fiction features thirteen works, including "Rohy Miverina", "Decision to Live" and "The Encounter", while twelve feature films are in contention, among them "Mandrakizay Doria", "Ohabolana 19:21", "Safidy", "Psychopaty" and "Baba-koto". Beyond the competition, the ISSM aims to contribute to the professionalization of Malagasy cinema and promote directors, actors and various production professionals. The festival also plans discussions around sector challenges. This second edition thus aims to strengthen the visibility of works, talents and professionals contributing to the development of cinema in Madagascar.
