Motorcycle Plunges Into Drainage Canal in Andravoahangy
An uncovered drainage canal in Andravoahangy. A motorcycle ended up in a drainage canal bordering the roadway in Andravoahangy yesterday. "The driver couldn't see the hole because it was completely submerged in water, which caused the fall," said a witness. Following heavy rains in Antananarivo, the canal became flooded, concealing the hazard. This is not an isolated incident. "This has happened three or four times already," reported another source. This cavity has existed for a long time without any action being taken. "Local residents and regular visitors to the neighborhood know about these holes. But there are no warning signs, absolutely nothing, and the hole is left wide open," lamented a resident. Andravoahangy is not the only district affected by these degraded roads that become real traps when it rains. Many drainage canals remain open to the sky and become covered with water after downpours. "We really need to take measures, because this will eventually cause a tragedy," warned residents. The rain that fell in the capital over the weekend and early in the week proved that the water drainage problem is not yet fully resolved. Several road sections were covered with water yesterday morning, even as the rain subsided. Miangaly Ralitera
