CENI Confirms Elections Will Be Held
Thierry Rakotonarivo, president of the CENI, ratifies the organization of elections. Reconfirmation. "The statements from the president of the Refoundation are clear: the twenty-four month period will be respected and elections will be held around July," declared Thierry Rakotonarivo, president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). The type of election in question has not yet been specified, whether it is a presidential election or another ballot. The July 2027 deadline thus remains maintained in the calendar established as part of the Refoundation roadmap. This deadline was also reaffirmed by Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, head of state, during his meeting with his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, on Sunday in Durban, South Africa. This new confirmation reflects the stated willingness to respect the twenty-four month period and to organize elections within the announced timeframe. The position displayed by the authorities rules out, at this stage, the hypothesis of an extension of the transition period. Political Dialogue On the CENI side, election preparation should not constitute an obstacle. The complete overhaul of the electoral list must be completed by April 2027. "The electoral list will be entirely ready. There will therefore be no problem organizing elections in July," assured Thierry Rakotonarivo. The electoral commission thus believes it has the necessary time to finalize preparatory operations before the announced deadline. Political dialogue remains topical. Consultations conducted with officials and the various forces involved in the electoral process must notably allow discussion of the modalities for organizing the ballot, the electoral system and the legal framework. "These consultations must allow discussion of ways to improve the electoral process, the system that manages it, as well as the laws that govern it," explained the CENI president. The CENI finally calls on the forces involved in the elections to participate in consultations and to formulate proposals to improve the electoral process. Political formations wishing to participate in the ballot are also invited to prepare their mobilization. "We call on the vital forces involved in the elections to take part in the discussions and bring their proposals. Political forces considering participating in the elections must also prepare for this deadline," concluded Thierry Rakotonarivo.
