Fake Baccalaureate Diplomas: Network Involving University Officials Dismantled
The vigilance of a staff member at the University of Antananarivo uncovered a vast scandal involving the falsification of official documents. A young woman presented herself at the Baccalaureate Office to have a copy of her diploma certified. The watchful eye of the official quickly detected significant irregularities. Upon verification in official records, the verdict was clear: the candidate had failed the exam in 2024 and was never admitted. Alerted, the gendarmerie brigade of Tana Ville, based in Betongolo, immediately apprehended the suspect. The investigation revealed the existence of a particularly well-structured network, headed by the director of a private educational institution. To supply fake diplomas to failing students, he had surrounded himself with key accomplices within the University of Ambohitsaina administration itself. Among the accomplices were an agent from the Baccalaureate Office, a secretary and an employee of the University, as well as a vice-director and department head within the institution. Searches conducted at one of the suspects' residences yielded a veritable arsenal of forgery materials: four fake "original diplomas," 12 certified copies, two fake grade transcripts, 8 certified transcript copies, and dozens of national identity cards. Following investigations involving 11 people, the case was referred to justice. The verdict fell: five administrative officials directly implicated, including the private school director, were placed in custody at Antanimora Central Prison. The young woman was placed under judicial supervision, while five other employees who were questioned were released on provisional bail.
