The Fort-Dauphin wind farm is now operational. Energy transition is accelerating in Madagascar. In Fort-Dauphin, 19 wind turbines are now operational, forming, together with a solar plant, the country's first hybrid solar-wind complex. The winds of Anôsy are now generating electricity. Commissioned in July 2026, Madagascar's first wind farm comprises 19 turbines and strengthens the energy infrastructure developed by QIT Madagascar Minerals (QMM) in partnership with CrossBoundary Energy (CBE). This infrastructure marks a significant step forward in diversifying renewable energy sources in the region. The wind farm has an installed capacity of 16 MW. It complements the 14 MW solar plant, operational since 2024. Together, they form a hybrid complex with a combined production capacity of 30 MW, supplemented by a battery energy storage system (BESS) capable of reaching 16 MWh. This combination of solar, wind, and storage enables better exploitation of the complementary renewable resources available in the region. It aims notably to cover a significant portion of QMM's electricity needs, while contributing to Fort-Dauphin's power supply through the Jirama network. Regional Impact Beyond its use in the mining sector, this new production capacity also represents a boost for Anôsy's economic development. Increased availability and improved electricity reliability can foster productive activities, services, tourism, and connectivity infrastructure. For QMM, the wind farm's commissioning also aligns with its "Sustainable Mine" vision, aimed at further reducing the environmental footprint of its operations through increased renewable energy use. With its 19 turbines now operational, Anôsy becomes the starting point for a new energy sector in Madagascar. The project also illustrates the potential for complementarity between industrial investments and strengthened energy capacity for regional benefit.
