Makua Festival Music aims to showcase Madagascar globally
Toamasina will host the second edition of Makua Festival Music, bringing together Malagasy artists to celebrate cultural diversity and international openness. Four days to amplify Madagascar's diverse musical voices. From October 29 to November 1, Makua Festival Music will gather artists from various regions of the island in Toamasina, with the ambition of showcasing the richness of Malagasy musical heritage beyond borders. Among the first headliners announced, Rossy will perform alongside his musicians and a brass band. His repertoire will notably honor "Mpihira gasy, vakisaova, vakodrazana," revisited through his artistic vision. For Denise, singer and organizer, promoting cultural diversity remains at the heart of the project: "From Madagascar to the World. This festival is for Malagasy people." Artists from different regions of the country are expected, while artists from neighboring islands will also participate. International openness will also be reflected through the presence of African and European influencers, as well as professional journalists, notably from RFI Music, to increase visibility for the festival and Malagasy musical cultures. After a first edition rich in experiences, organizers aim to reach new heights. "This second edition will be more professional and more spectacular," explains Denise. A large stage, adapted equipment, and technical facilities for major performances are planned. The event begins October 29 with a grand carnival, followed by four days of concerts, traditions, and encounters. Makua Festival Music aims to make Toamasina a crossroads of Malagasy music, between cultural roots and global openness.
