Following operations that arrested and dismantled criminal networks in Vangaindrano district, efforts to restore security and dismantle illegal armed groups continue. A notorious gang leader known for orchestrating violent robberies and murders, who had terrorized local authorities, was killed by police. The leader, known as Koko, was fatally shot. Early last week, confrontations occurred with gang members linked to this criminal at a location called Anarabe in Lopary commune. This area served as a hideout and meeting point for the criminals before carrying out robberies. Police received intelligence about the location and launched an operation to raid it. At that moment, Koko was reportedly in the area gathering accomplices to plan another robbery. Police did not hesitate and immediately descended on the location. When the criminals fled the area, gunfire erupted and casualties resulted. The confrontation was intense as security forces had to defend themselves. The gang was defeated, according to reports, with one member killed. Others were wounded but survived. The casualty was identified as Koko. A police-issued revolver was found on him. Investigations continue to locate his associates. It is noted that Koko's gang was responsible for a deadly robbery at the end of April in Soasirana fokontany. At that time, they did not limit themselves to cattle theft but also attacked residents and killed the local chief.
