Five people have been arrested by the National Police in connection with various rape cases reported across several regions of the country since late last week. The victims are mainly underage girls, some of whom are particularly vulnerable. In Tolagnaro, a 6-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused in Ambinanibe on July 30, 2026. After reporting the facts and identifying the alleged perpetrator, her parents filed a complaint. The suspect was arrested during the last weekend. Following the investigation, the case was referred to the prosecutor's office and the accused was placed in provisional detention. In Sambava, a 9-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Bemanevika. A 38-year-old man suspected of involvement in the facts was arrested on August 11, 2026. The case will be presented to the prosecutor's office following the preliminary investigation. In Amparafaravola, a 12-year-old girl allegedly suffered rape in Andranolava on August 5. The suspect was arrested and detained after being presented to the prosecutor's office. In Antananarivo Atsimondrano, a 13-year-old adolescent with mental disability reported being raped in Ambohijanaka. A 29-year-old man suspected of the facts was arrested by law enforcement. Finally, in the 4th district of the urban municipality of Antananarivo, another 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Namontana on August 11, 2026. The suspect was also arrested. Call for Vigilance Faced with the multiplication of these cases, the National Police urge the public to remain vigilant and encourage anyone to immediately report cases of violence committed against children and vulnerable persons. Law enforcement reminds that alleged perpetrators are often people from the victims' circle or social environment. Caution remains necessary, particularly regarding minors. Prompt reporting of facts enables better protection of victims, expedites investigations, and allows necessary judicial measures against those implicated.
