Between June 19 and 23, 2026, the National Police conducted a series of crackdown operations in the capital and surrounding areas, neutralizing six criminal figures. These actions come during a sensitive period marked by Independence celebrations, when banditry tends to intensify. On Tuesday, in Ankadikely-Ilafy, a criminal known as "Radevoly" was killed in a shootout following an armed attack on a shop. On June 22, in Ambolonkandrina, two repeat offenders were shot dead after opening fire on police, who seized a homemade rifle and ammunition. On June 20, in Ambatomaro, two gang leaders were killed and four accomplices arrested as they prepared to commit a robbery. Finally, on June 19, in Ambilanibe-Andavamamba, an armed robber notorious for violent assaults was killed during an operation conducted by plainclothes officers. These interventions aim to curb urban insecurity and ensure public safety during national festivities. Gustave Mparany
