Soavinandriana Hospital Centre was founded on August 13, 1891. One hundred thirty-five years later, the facility remains standing, its walls bearing the marks of time. The state of deterioration in certain parts of Soavinandriana Hospital Centre (Cenhsoa) does not escape the notice of its patients. "Its infrastructure shows the weight of the years," testified yesterday a relative of a woman hospitalized in the gastric ward. Female patients expressed their shock at the sight of a delivery room in the maternity service. "I thought the room was no longer operational given its condition, but it still is," said one woman. The assessment is equally disappointing for a mother who took a first-class room in the same service. "The room was gloomy," she laments. Patients also report repeated water cuts. "The tap runs dry at night from 9 p.m. until early morning. We have to fill bottles during the day to meet our nighttime needs," explains a patient's relative. Other users denounce the deteriorated state of certain sanitary facilities. Yet the deterioration of certain buildings does not discourage users. The vast majority of patients and their relatives questioned yesterday in the hospital courtyard express real satisfaction with the quality of care. "We regularly accompany relatives here, and the care is excellent. Healthcare workers ensure rigorous follow-up and cleanliness is quite satisfactory," says Eugène Randriamalala, an attendant. Many do not hesitate to compare it favorably to other hospitals. "I never hesitate to express my dissatisfaction when care or reception shocks me, but here, the care is impeccable," testifies another caregiver. From the management side, they assure that renovation work has recently been carried out. The hall of the large multi-story building received a fresh coat of paint, from ground floor to fifth floor. The children's service play area has been renovated. The facility also houses one of the country's most modern services, where open-heart surgeries are notably performed. Toilets in certain services have also been renovated. The hospital indicates that its water supply has improved. According to an internal source, the main ambition of this 135th anniversary remains the modernization of infrastructure to provide better reception for patients.
