A serious traffic accident followed by a suspected hit-and-run occurred Monday, August 10, 2026 around 8:30 p.m. on RN7 at kilometer 34+900 in Amboasary, Tsinjony fokontany, Behenjy commune, Ambatolampy district. A Volkswagen Crafter minibus operating the Antananarivo-Toliara route struck a motorcycle inside a bridge. According to witness accounts, the motorcyclist, who was carrying a passenger, was traveling at high speed before losing control and hitting the left side of the Crafter. Critically injured, the motorcycle driver was evacuated to Behenjy CSB II, then transferred to HJRA in Antananarivo. Both motorcycle occupants showed signs of alcohol intoxication. Upon police arrival, both the Crafter and motorcycle were no longer at the scene. Witnesses reported the minibus driver left after the accident, leaving the injured person to be evacuated by bystanders. The vehicle was eventually intercepted in Ihazolava and its driver taken to Behenjy outpost for investigation. Gendarmes continue investigating to determine responsibility and clarify the suspected hit-and-run circumstances.
