A suspicious death raising many questions. A soldier was found dead from a gunshot wound on the morning of August 11, 2026, around 3:30 a.m., within the Ihosy Infantry Battalion camp. The soldier had just completed a mission as part of Operation "Riri 2026". His unit was stationed in Ihosy awaiting return to Antananarivo. While soldiers were conducting roll call and inspection, a gunshot was heard coming from the toilets. Officers immediately went to the scene, but the victim had already succumbed to his injuries. Bullet wounds were found on the chest and left arm. His service weapon, an AKM, and ammunition were still found near the body. However, initial findings revealed elements considered troubling. According to available information, tests performed on the victim's weapon did not establish that it was the source of the shot. These elements strengthen questions about the exact circumstances of the soldier's death. The hypothesis of a shot from a third party is being examined by investigators. The possibility of a settling of scores within the camp, as well as an external intrusion, particularly by armed individuals, remains to be determined. After checks performed on the soldiers present and their weapons, three soldiers reportedly presented elements considered suspicious regarding their weapons. These findings should help guide the investigation. An inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances of this death and establish any responsibilities.
