An investigation was opened approximately one week ago following the deaths of two people—a mother and her child—found shot dead at their home in Antanikatsaka, Bemasoandro Itaosy, on Saturday morning. Details remain speculative as investigators await conclusive findings on the exact circumstances of their deaths. Multiple gunshots are believed to have caused their deaths. According to witnesses, the gunfire did not particularly resonate in the surrounding area at the time. "The investigation is proceeding regarding this regrettable event. We await new developments; further details will soon be known, and we trust the investigators' expertise concerning the facts established on site and all verifications," said Ranitratsilo Jimmy, mayor of Bemasoandro Itaosy commune. The incident occurred in a fenced and guarded house approximately two hundred meters from the Bemasoandro commune office. Both the gendarmerie and police attended the scene to conduct investigations. Commune representatives also visited the location. "Typically in our commune, we deal mainly with cattle theft cases, but this time it is a distressing event, as the commune has lost two lives—a mother and her child. We based our assessment on what we observed and local testimonies. While having his car repaired, the driver called his employer on Saturday morning, but she did not answer. He then called her son, who was elsewhere and had another set of keys. When the house was opened, the bodies of the mother and child were found, both shot dead. No house had been forced open, no belongings were in disarray, and nothing was missing. A handwritten document found on site was handed to investigators. The first hypothesis is voluntary homicide followed by suicide. The second hypothesis, which we are not ruling out, is premeditated murder or murder committed by an outsider.
