In Madirokely, it was not just a school that was inaugurated last Saturday in the presence of Minister of Communication and Culture Gascar Fenosoa. It was a new perspective opening for children. Four new classrooms strengthen existing infrastructure, which has also been renovated. The operation cost 185 million ariary.
The contrast is striking. Until recently, students studied in buildings made of local materials. Today, solid, sturdy constructions that meet standards have taken their place. Beyond the architectural change, it is the learning environment itself that is transforming.
Behind this achievement is the Italian association IAM I Love Madagascar, led by Ricci Roberto. Italian donors and companies "Romac" and "LAPM Dress Your Design" also provided financial support for the school's construction. Madirokely becomes the 19th school built by IAM in the forty-two fokontany of Nosy Be. And the commitment does not stop there. Other establishments are still under construction and should be inaugurated soon.
This presence is particularly meaningful in remote neighborhoods where school infrastructure remains often insufficient. For children, a new classroom means a more dignified learning environment. For parents, it is an additional opportunity to keep their children in school.
An inauguration like no other
Yesterday's ceremony also marked a departure from previous inaugurations. The Minister of Communication and Culture, Gascar Fenosoa, traveled to Madirokely alongside elected and appointed authorities of Nosy Be. Together, they cut the traditional ribbon, officially launching this new school infrastructure.
According to testimonies gathered during the ceremony, this is the first time a minister has attended the inauguration of one of the many schools built by IAM in Nosy Be. The ministerial presence also reflects recognition of the work accomplished by Ricci Roberto in service of education on the island. Moved by this commitment, the minister announced that an honorary distinction should be awarded to him in recognition of services rendered.
In Madirokely, the inauguration of this new primary school reminds us of an obvious truth: a school is not just a building. It is an investment in the future. The challenge now is to fill these classrooms, ensure good teaching conditions, and above all preserve these infrastructures so they benefit children sustainably.
"The buildings are here. Now we must give them real school life. We offer these buildings free of charge, with all furniture and educational materials, to the school district of Nosy Be. We also ensure maintenance, but these achievements require teachers, as they are no longer numerous," said Raheriniaina.
