Drugs were transported by speedboat. They were apprehended in Madagascar as part of an investigation into an alleged plot to import drugs. Among them, two men already implicated in a drug trafficking case valued at 375 million Mauritian rupees were intercepted aboard a fast vessel that ran aground on the east coast of the island. The vessel, a blue speedboat without a name or registration number, reportedly left Mauritius on the night of July 17. This maritime operation had been under close surveillance since March. The four suspects, identified as David Kingsley Chicot, Ismael Benjamin Yoel, Jean David Legentil and Brian Bowanee, allegedly used false identities during their arrest. Among them, Jean David Legentil and Ismael Benjamin Yoel had already been arrested in 2024 in a drug trafficking case in Goodlands. They spent more than a year in preventive detention before being released on bail in January. The Bail and Remand Court had then highlighted delays in the investigation and the lack of concrete evidence establishing a clear link between these two men and a criminal plot. Furthermore, relatives of Jean David Legentil are currently under investigation by the Financial Crimes Commission on suspicion of money laundering.
