Poor Rôrô. The Barea coach is chasing his salary from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Malagasy Football Federation. The two entities are passing the buck. The FMF simply stated that the Barea coach, Africa's runners-up in 2023, resigned from his position as head coach of the national team after another defeat to Tunisia. For the FMF, the matter is clear. Coach Rôrô did not complete his mission, so he terminated the contract himself. It remains unclear whether there was actually a contract signed by all parties or if everything was done verbally, as is often the case with local coaches. Payment of Coach Rôrô's salary has always been problematic. Sometimes a private company handled it. The coach's case exposes the treatment inflicted on national technical staff across all disciplines. Only athletes and players are visible, yet without the guidance of technical staff, no performance is possible. Even when bonuses are distributed, technical staff take a back seat. Most, if not all, are volunteers and sports enthusiasts who live for the game. An absurd situation given that the State created a National School of Sports and trains specialized technicians in various disciplines, yet they contribute little to sports development. They are civil servants who could serve in federations, as is the case in many countries. Sports coordinators, sports educators, coaches, physical trainers, sports doctors... are valued and treated like other state employees, similar to doctors or teachers. In the 1980s, a football development project undertaken with German cooperation under Peter Schnittger included training elite coaches who were to have the same rank as civil servants. The project failed and coaches wandered from club to club or succeeded each other at the head of the national team just for glory. Their diplomas served little purpose, even though some benefited from FIFA-organized training to advance their careers. The situation is similar in other disciplines. Ministers parade through Ambohijatovo with each political change, but to date, there has been no shadow of a development policy involving technical staff. Coach Rôrô learned this the hard way. The worst of defeats.
