Tsiroanomandidy: Elderly Woman Killed in Cattle Raid, 54 Zebus Stolen
Gendarmes are conducting ongoing operations. A new cattle raid has claimed a life in Tsiroanomandidy district. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a 75-year-old woman was fatally shot during a raid carried out by approximately thirty heavily armed individuals in Bemahatazana commune. The tragedy occurred around 0:30 AM in the fokontany of Ambatofotsy Tsena, Bemahatazana commune, Tsiroanomandidy district. According to initial reports, around thirty heavily armed dahalo raiders stormed the village and seized a large herd of cattle. During the attack, a 75-year-old woman was fatally shot. Alerted by unusual noises, the victim reportedly left her home, thinking it was a simple neighborhood dispute, before coming face to face with the attackers. The criminals fled with 54 zebus. Immediately after the incident, residents launched a pursuit operation supported by gendarmes. This intervention recovered 41 zebus, abandoned by the thieves during their escape. Two additional animals were killed by the dahalo during their flight, while the rest of the herd remains missing. Law enforcement continues sweep operations to locate the missing cattle and identify those responsible for this deadly attack, which once again highlights the persistent insecurity linked to cattle theft in Tsiroanomandidy district.
