Ankaramalaza has transformed into a major spiritual pilgrimage center. The great hub of Madagascar's Christian Revival movement celebrated its 85th anniversary, marking over eight decades of faith, teachings, and ministry to tens of thousands of believers from across the island and the diaspora. Founded in 1941 under the spiritual leadership of Mama Nenilava, Tobilehibe Ankaramalaza represents the third major Revival movement (Fifohazana) in Madagascar, alongside the historic centers of Soatanana, Farihimena, and Manolotrony. This milestone anniversary testifies to the enduring impact and continuous influence of this spiritual work. A week of spiritual gatherings and biblical teachings took place at the toby, coupled with the preparation and consecration of new shepherds (mpiandry) on August 2nd. During this gathering, conferences, speeches, and Scripture teachings were delivered by pastors and various leaders. The event drew massive attendance, with approximately 30,000 people gathering to participate, including over a hundred international visitors from Canada, Germany, Switzerland, and France, as well as representatives from toby sections outside Madagascar. The organizing committee prepared for several months in advance, and the enthusiasm of believers traveling from afar remained impressive. This year, two deaths occurred: a young man drowned in the Sandrananta River, and a woman who succumbed to pulmonary embolism. The toby organized a collection to support the bereaved families.

The Spiritual Message and Biblical Foundation

The Jubilee serves as a privileged moment to address a message to the people, particularly to the children of the Revival and the entire Malagasy nation. The central biblical text for this message is based on Isaiah 49:26d: "And all flesh shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob." The word in Isaiah constitutes God's self-revelation, proclaiming who He truly is. Historically, this teaching appeared to the people of Israel when facing captivity in Syria and Babylon. Isaiah reminded them that God was present among them, affirming that He is the Savior and Liberator. "For 2026, despite the events experienced and trials faced, the spiritual message shows that God cares for His people and is the Savior of the Malagasy. Generally, this Jubilee brings a powerful message for the nation's life, centered on liberation, forgiveness of sins, and rest. God desires to save and liberate, not only materially and physically, but above all for eternal life."

Faith and Continuity of Divine Work

According to Jaona Andrianasolo, General Secretary of Tobilehibe Ankaramalaza, "This celebration testifies to the presence and permanence of Ankaramalaza over the decades. The Revival movement emerged from Madagascar and remains in full flourishing today. Although Mama Nenilava passed away in 1998, it is Jesus Christ who accomplishes and continues the work and propagation of the Gospel without ceasing." For Malagasy actress Sahondra Raholiarihanta, present at the toby's 75th anniversary, "It is clear that over ten years the number of believers continues to increase, testifying to growing enthusiasm for faith and closeness to God. The spiritual commitment of believers strengthens. The more aspirants there are, the more called ones increase. It is precisely this deep aspiration in people coming to Ankaramalaza, desiring to answer their calling as shepherds (mpiandry) within the Lutheran Church, that energizes and promotes religious life in Madagascar. For my part, my presence here and this entire commitment transforms into a living testimony and a powerful evangelization tool for the entire community, so that the time devoted, financial resources invested, and the journey to the toby are not in vain."

Road Rehabilitation Works Progress

The road leading to Ankaramalaza is in poor condition and inaccessible to transport vehicles during the rainy season. Yet Ankaramalaza ranks among the largest and most famous Lutheran centers worldwide, welcoming tens of thousands of pilgrims annually. To cross the Sandrananta River, part of the route has been developed with a "concrete roadway" to ensure durability and prevent rapid deterioration.
