More than thirty years after its creation and ten years after the death of Omgui, Ny Ainga continues to honor his legacy through an unprecedented anniversary concert. Ny Ainga will pay tribute to Omgui while pursuing its musical journey.
Ten years after the disappearance of its founder, Omgui, Ny Ainga chooses to look toward the future without forgetting its roots. On August 16, at 2 p.m., the group will return to the Antsahamanitra stage for a tribute concert designed as a celebration of its heritage, but also as proof that its musical adventure continues.
While Omgui was the main composer, creation has never stopped. Other members of the group continue his work, in accordance with the wishes of his family, who entrusted them with the responsibility of continuing this mission. Since their leader's death, Ny Ainga has already released three albums and now has nearly four hundred songs. The group prioritizes live performances to showcase its new creations and continues to respond to numerous requests throughout Madagascar, in line with its values of transmission and education.
A unique event
Composed of eighteen members, including singers, musicians and dancers, Ny Ainga maintains the organization established by its founder. The departures of certain artists, notably Tsanta and Patty, who moved abroad, have not undermined this continuity. The group always leaves them the possibility of returning to the stage when they visit Madagascar.
Prepared over an entire year, this show aims to stand out from usual productions. Group members deliberately concentrated all their attention on Antsahamanitra to offer a unique event. Several giant screens will broadcast images tracing Omgui's journey, while numerous surprises will punctuate the show. A photobooth will also be set up to allow the public to share this moment of remembrance.
The concert will be marked by strong audience participation. Part of the repertoire was chosen based on suggestions from fans posted on the group's Facebook page. The most requested songs will join a selection tracing Ny Ainga's entire history, from its beginnings to titles composed after Omgui's death. No guest artists will take the stage: only Ny Ainga members will perform, joined by former group members, notably Tantely Ny Feo and Zoky Doda, who will perform several pieces with the current lineup.
With more than thirty years of career, Ny Ainga attributes its longevity to texts carrying meaningful messages, timeless melodies and a musical universe inspired by country, enriched with varied rhythms. Keen to preserve the authenticity of its repertoire, the group is also preparing a new adaptation of its old titles with current technologies, while respecting their arrangements, lyrics and identity.
For Ny Ainga, the challenge is now clear: Omgui is gone, but his legacy continues to live as long as the public accompanies the group in this new stage of its history.
