Press meeting to announce national assembly in Mahajanga. The Ministry of Technical Education and Professional Training (METFP) is organizing a major national consultation on August 11-12, 2026 in Mahajanga. The main objective is to overhaul the training system to adapt young people's skills to real labor market demands. As part of implementing the State's General Policy (PGE-R) and its Strategic Action Plan (PAS), the government is taking a decisive step for the future of Malagasy youth. Approved by the Council of Ministers, this major consultation meeting on Technical Education and Professional Training (ETFP) reform will bring together all key national stakeholders in the City of Flowers. This strategic initiative aims to be an inclusive dialogue space. It will unite decentralized territorial authorities, the private sector, technical and financial partners, civil society, education and research actors, parent associations, as well as young people, students and entrepreneurs. All will unite their voices to develop a shared vision and establish a clear roadmap to revitalize the sector.
Modernization
This refoundation dynamic is based on in-depth technical analyses and realities observed on the ground. Recent data reveals major challenges within the national network. Between 2021 and 2023, the Great Island had 173 training centers, divided between 88 technical and professional high schools (LTP) and 85 professional training centers (CFP). However, about a dozen remain non-operational to date. The conclusions and strategic directions from Mahajanga's work will serve as a lasting foundation for modernizing training structures. As the ministry emphasized, renovating Technical Education and Professional Training is a key lever for forming competent, responsible youth who are direct actors in Madagascar's socio-economic development.
