A devastating fire broke out Tuesday evening around 10:20 p.m. in Antsahambilo, fokontany K1, in the commune of Ivato, Ambohidratrimo district. When the flames were brought under control, the toll was particularly heavy: two women from the same family were found dead, trapped in the bedroom where they were sleeping. According to initial findings, the fire spread rapidly through the dwelling, leaving the victims little chance of escape. The two deceased, aged 42 and 16, were completely charred. Thanks to the spontaneous mobilization of neighbors, the fire was contained before specialized rescue services arrived, who were called immediately. The fire was completely extinguished around 11:10 p.m. Alerted, officers from the Mandrosoa-Ivato Advanced Post, under the Talatamaty Brigade, rushed to the scene. The doctor from Ivato's CSB II health center and the fokontany chief were also mobilized to conduct standard investigations. The exact circumstances of the fire remain unknown. However, investigators are currently favoring two hypotheses: an electrical short circuit caused by faulty wiring, or a fire started by embers from a device used to heat a chick farm. Beyond the loss of life, material damage is considerable. Approximately 70% of property was destroyed, including the house, a motorcycle, and numerous personal belongings. In total, six households representing 18 people are now homeless. The fokontany has already made arrangements to find them temporary shelter. Early in the morning, local authorities visited the site. The head of the Analamanga region, Cémence Raharinirina, and the mayor of Ivato commune, Penjy Andrianarisoa, provided emergency assistance to those affected and offered condolences to bereaved families. They also helped organize the care and repatriation of the two victims' remains. An investigation has been opened by the Mandrosoa-Ivato Advanced Post to determine the precise origin of this deadly fire.
