The fight against insecurity continues in the capital. Two individuals known to police for banditry were fatally wounded during an armed confrontation with law enforcement in Ambolikandrina on Monday night. According to information released by the National Police, officers from the Central Service of Special Intervention Units (SCUSI) had been alerted to the preparation of an attack targeting a wholesale merchant in the 67Ha district. Starting Sunday, a surveillance operation was put in place to monitor the movements of the criminal group and prevent any criminal action. However, while preparing their crime, the suspects changed their plan and selected a new target in Ambolikandrina, in the Ravitoto sector. Faced with this change in strategy, police adapted their intervention plan to intercept the individuals before they could act. The operation quickly escalated when the criminals spotted the presence of law enforcement. According to the National Police, they opened fire first, triggering an exchange of gunfire. During this confrontation, two repeat offenders were seriously wounded. Despite medical assistance, they succumbed to their injuries. Following the intervention, police seized a homemade 12-gauge rifle, three cartridges of the same caliber, and a knife. An investigation has been opened to identify possible accomplices and determine the extent of the group's criminal activities. This operation is part of ongoing police actions to combat insecurity and organized crime in Antananarivo and surrounding areas. Authorities reaffirm their determination to neutralize criminal networks threatening citizen safety and property.
