The Ministry of National Education (MEN) has unveiled the main axes of this major sporting and educational event, which will take place in the City of Flowers, Mahajanga, from August 10-16. Placed under the inspiring theme "Sôma Mavaraka," these national competitions are not limited to simple athletic competition: they constitute a fundamental lever for social cohesion, civic responsibility, and civic education for Malagasy youth. The event promises to be grand in scale. Over 2,000 actors from the school and sports world are expected in Mahajanga. Inclusion. Faithful to its commitments to inclusive and equitable education, the 2026 JNSS edition gives a place of honor to students with physical, visual, hearing, or intellectual disabilities. About a hundred young athletes with specific needs will participate in competitions alongside their classmates. This strong initiative aims to highlight the potential of every child without distinction, affirming with conviction that sports practice is a universal right and a powerful vector of human dignity, solidarity, and social integration. Disciplines. On the purely sporting level, young athletes will compete in four main disciplines: athletics, basketball, handball, and football. The events will allow for the detection of the country's future sports talents while cultivating a taste for effort and fair play. The festivities will unfold over seven intense days. Monday, August 10, 2026 will be marked by the grand official opening ceremony. From Tuesday, August 11 to Friday, August 14, 2026, there will be elimination rounds and competitions in the four disciplines. Saturday, August 15, 2026 will be entirely devoted to relaxation, leisure, and a friendship excursion to Maroala, to strengthen the bonds of fraternity between all regional delegations. Finally, Sunday, August 16, 2026 will host the grand finals in the morning, followed in the afternoon by the closing ceremony, the solemn presentation of trophies and medals, and the passing of the torch.
